“There are very few times in life when you discover something truly extraordinary: The Retreat in Costa Rica is one of them. Having visited the most renowned wellness retreats around the world, this is what sets The Retreat apart: a magnificent boutique feel where you truly feel at home, next-level spa treatments, and the most effective ayurvedic program you'll find anywhere. I have seen in terms of weight loss and body transformation. The staff kept saying: it's not a job, it's a passion, and it shows.”

Every corner of the hotel has details that invite you to relax and fall in love with the place. Spectacular views. Clean and comfortable rooms. A delicious combination of colors and textures in each of the dishes, and above all, a cordial and pleasant attention to each of the family members, especially the children.

Amazing views from this beautiful place in Atenas, CR. But nothing is like the food we tried. The recipes are strictly executed by chef Sergio and his staff. Good food, great people, peace, and happiness. Loved it!!

A labor of love resulting in healing alchemy
Upon first arriving at The Retreat, I could feel that this place was a true labor of love from the creators. The attention to detail, thoughtfulness of the staff, soothing decor, and nutritious meals are all designed for the health and well-being of guests. I have not eaten so clean and well in years, and everything is delicious! A big thank you to the staff and the owner for creating such a magical place. I am just two days in, with six days left, and wanted to post my gratitude as I’m floored by the attention to detail and care. The new spa is gorgeous (as is every corner of The Retreat), the views are lush, and the staff go above and beyond to assist. I’m here for eight days on an online meditation retreat and the staff has been so helpful to accommodate my schedule. Thank you! This place is heavenly.

I will definitely be back and have already been recommending this place to others.

P.S., the turn-down cookies are a wonderful touch. I plan to make them for my family (and make changes to our diet) when I return home!

"An unforgettable experience that we want to repeat."
We decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at this exclusive hotel in the mountains of Atenas, Costa Rica. And it has been one of the best celebrations. The hotel is beautiful, you can feel the love and harmony in every detail, from its design to the decorations in every corner. The spa area and its pool are like a trip to a magical, revitalizing, and peaceful place. The couple's massage was fantastic (thanks Katia and Giselle). The restaurant with its own vegetable garden is delicious. We also learned a lot about how to eat healthy with an Ayurvedic touch; thanks, Carlos and Sergio. We miss the special breakfast granola. But the best thing is all its staff: they made us feel special at all times; each of them was genuinely interested in our wellbeing. It was very nice. And at this time, it is worth mentioning that they kept the security protocols at all times.

A beautiful place to rest and recharge
wonderful staff and thoughtful accommodations (all in your room: sound machine, light dimmers, evening health snack, essential oils, etc). take full advantage of the food and beverage menu and spa services! some services that I've never seen offered elsewhere in Latin America. Meghan was the residential yoga instructor and was wonderful.

if any cons to share, this isn't an ideal place for solo travelers as someone with solo experience signing up for yoga retreats. but I'm sure it all depends on the guest composition at the time. and, it's a secluded location quite a distance from the main road or public transportation option so go prepared to stay on the property versus exploring the surrounding area. the resort offers local transportation and excursions but at steep prices.

"It's true - "Heaven on Earth"
I spent a peaceful four nights at The Retreat at the end of a tour of Costa Rica. I was welcomed and made to feel at home immediately. My room was perfect - simple, luxurious design with views I could have gazed at twenty-four hours a day. Design throughout is so well thought out for health and relaxation, with the incredible view across the countryside to the gulf ever-present.... the sunsets! I wish I had been able to stay longer to benefit from more treatments from the excellent spa team. Morning and evening yoga sessions and the personal attention I was given were great. The real highlight for me was the entire staff team who were utterly delightful and generous, including letting me chat in the kitchen, interrupting their preparation of delicious meals. I just hope The Retreat does not change with its growing popularity and I wish them all the very best.

I've received the below email and am delighted to share my feedback, though I'm sure you know what to expect. :)

 What I loved:

- the Staff continue to be the highlight of my Crystal Mountain gem:

* Vida Mia (Kathia, Daisy, Fiorella, Amal, Dr. Sheveta...and I know I'm forgetting the lady who did my Infrared): all so lovely, caring and kind

* Front Desk (Karla, Monica, Gilberto, Alejandro, Lucia): wonderful, I feel they're friends, but the client-relationship is still there.  They're all wonderful ♥️

* Guest Relations: Jimena and Emerson are my Dream Team - even before I arrive, I know I'm in good hands.  Jimena: catches every detail and is always so accommodating.  Through many changes, I feel she always has my back; Emerson - went above and beyond, to help me with a souvenir for a colleague's son.  I had no idea where to get it and - on his own time - went to a market to find it for me, and brought it to the resort.  Stellar service!  And, he arranged for Gilverto to take me into town for medicine - just wonderful!

* I love that I can text with folks, 24/7, if needed.  Being so sequestered in the mountains, it's comforting to know I can reach someone

* Kitchen/Dining Room: Ninfa and Lindsay are my SHE-ROES!  I absolutely love seeing folks who look like me at the helm of such a world-class dining experience!; Chef Sergio - the Big Boss, went above and beyond to personally deliver dinner to my room, when I was not feeling well.  I know this wouldn't happen anywhere else; Jonathan, Karina, JuanJose and Fabio - so sweet and attentive: always took such good care of me. (Jonathan and Karina, especially: when I re-emerged from my room after 2 days of being ill, they both welcomed me back with big hugs, as if I were a dear friend they missed: I surely missed them ♥️

* Housekeeping: I didn't get the ladies' names, but each was so patient, warm and did a great job!   I lOVED walking into a fantastic-smelling room, the diffuser was incredible!
* Management: Salvador, I adore you and the example you set for your team!

 - the Food

* every meal was stellar: I love being surprised by something new each day!  I think I lost 3 lbs while there, Lol!

* I love that I can make tea, whenever I want

- Cultural Tour

* amazing!  meeting Dona Ceclia and her family, was such a great.  I loved being a part of authentic culture and history

 - Yoga Room

* Cynthia was lovely: wonderful energy and very caring

 - Galana

* lovely items to shop for (I got a dress and ankle bracelet!)

What I would love:

- softer edges in bathroom door handle: I bruised my leg on the sharp bottom edge (ouch!)

- perhaps a History Tour offering, to learn more about Costa Rica: monuments, places of interest, museums (I'm a nerd like that, Lol!)

- the option to bring my own towels: I lost my washcloth and face towel during one of my housekeeping sessions (understandable - they're all white and look the same)

- Dining Room: the lobster dish on Dec 28 was delish!  ...but, a little hard to remove from the shell: I let Chef Sergio know and he was thankful for the feedback

- Store offerings: I'd love the option to take some teas and diffuser oils with me

- Bathroom Amenities: not sure if there is enough clientele to support this, but I can't use the shampoo or conditioner on my hair texture.  There's an American, woman-owned brand called Pattern - if The Retreat partners with them for hair products for women with distinct hair textures, would be a gamechanger!  ????. Or, Aveda may be more in line with The Retreat's ethos re: organic (vegan) products, and they also cater to all (inclusive) hair types.

(...just a suggestion)

Ok, Salvador - I hope this is helpful: I'm so excited to rebook and appreciate the discounts shared in this email.  I am really feeling this will be my annual "retreat".

Wishing you all a successful year ahead!

With love and light,

Renee
